Telecommunications Technician – Massachusetts State Lottery Commission

Position Description:
JOB SUMMARY
Perform a variety of duties involving the installation and maintenance of data communication equipment. The Telecommunications Technician will be engaged in monitoring and troubleshooting communications equipment located at the Lottery’s data centers along with the end user equipment located in the 7200 Lottery agent locations. The Telecommunications Technician is also responsible for the move, additions and changes to the Lottery’s voice telephone systems for headquarters and all other Lottery offices. The Telecommunications Technician will also be engaged in the administration of communications for mobile devices such as smartphones, tablets, iPads, etc.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Implement physical connections on frames, patch panels, cabling, and equipment by making cross connects.
Resolve software configuration problems and diagnose hardware problems to the individual agent location level by using network monitoring equipment.
Work with Lottery field technicians while they are at the Lottery agent locations and perform tests and problem analysis of the Lottery’s wireless and wired routers.
Remotely manage devices to determine problems and debug issues, utilizing knowledge of network address configuration.
Access the communications service provider web-enabled, secure portal to build trouble tickets, track and review network reports and work multiple computer screens to create or update Lottery computer system agent service/dispatch records.
Must have a valid driver’s license with ability to drive throughout the Commonwealth.
Perform related duties as assigned.

[Full-Time (Salaried)] Salary Range: 78874.21-78874.21

Minimum Requirements:
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Must have knowledge with network administration tools using SNMP- and ICMP- based protocols.
Must understand how to remote desktop connect to routers using desktop or laptop computers.
Have a good understanding of network LAN/WAN hardware including routers, switches, load balancers and wireless networking equipment.
Computer skills, including Microsoft Word and Excel
Excellent problem-solving abilities
Work well alone and as part of a team.
Effective communicator with strong technical documentation skills.
Excellent attendance.
WORK SCHEDULE
This position requires a rotating 4-day week schedule of 37.5 hours/week and includes some Saturday shifts.
Hours 9:00am – 7:00pm
Lunch: 3 days/week = 30 minutes, 1 day/week = 1 hour
Week One schedule – Wed, Thurs, Fri, Sat
Week Two schedule – Mon, Tues, Fri, Sat
Week Three schedule – Mon, Tues, Wed, Thurs

Salary Range Information
For external applicants who are not current employees of the Massachusetts State Lottery Commission (MSLC), the non-negotiable starting salary for this position is $78,874.21 (Job Grade 23/Step 1).

For current MSLC union employees, the starting salary for this position will be calculated using union promotional rules.
