I look forward to making sure Somerville is a place not just for people with a lot of money, but also a place for working and immigrant families.
“I see myself as part of a greater community, not feeling alone is what I feel is really important.”
“We want you to have a career that lifts you from just struggling to get by to being able to achieve your dreams.”
“People in Somerville are not able to afford rent and are afraid of getting evicted, and it is important that we as a community keep it front of mind.”
“SCC sees that you are in need and they are standing with you and they are fighting with you and they are going to make sure that you get the help you need.”
“SCC has guided me to resources I didn’t know existed, and showed me that I’m not alone. I was an individual who went from homeless to having lots of issues to being a realized individual, and eventually actually contributing to something larger than myself, which is this community. That’s progress.”
“You get to know people and suddenly you’ve got kind of a support system that you didn’t have before.”
“Envision a place where people can work close to home, with more time and resources to spend with their family and community in Somerville.”
“SCC doesn’t forget about you. If it weren’t for SCC, I wouldn’t be where I am now. My whole life has changed.”
“Me siento bendecida porque estoy ayudando a mi familia. Tengo la certeza que voy a ser un poquito más y escalando poco a poco.”
I’ve been a resident of Somerville for many years, but working with SCC has made me not just a resident, but an engaged citizen.
I never considered myself financially or knowledgeable enough to pursue owning a home for myself, but through the course, and the team SCC assembled to talk to us, I have started the process of buying a home. The SCC team’s honesty and openness in cultivating a class where participants felt comfortable asking any questions was welcomed and provided a more in-depth understanding of the home buying options in Massachusetts. I look forward to updating you on my progress, and am forever grateful.
“We went from ‘We’d love to buy a house someday and don’t know how’ to ‘We are going to buy a house someday and we do know how.'”
We at East Cambridge Savings Bank and our Charitable Foundation support Somerville Community Corporation (SCC) in their efforts to sustain affordable housing and maintain social equality in the City of Somerville. SCC recognizes the importance of maintaining the City’s cultural diversity and works diligently to preserve it for future generations. The dedication and enthusiasm of the staff at SCC is evident in the accomplishments of the organization. It is imperative that the SCC receive financial support from community leaders so that it may continue with its very important work.”
“SCC is making housing permanently affordable to people that don’t have a lot of money at a time when rents are escalating.”
“When you have that total community connection, you feel accepted, you feel like ‘I’m a part of this.’ It helps you to be able to continue your efforts and say to someone else: ‘I know what you are going through, I truly know because I’ve been there.”
“We are thrilled to be able to support an organization that is working on ways to help people stay in our community.”
