SCC Marks 40 Years of Building Community in Somerville
On November 13 th 250 SCC members and supporters gathered at the Center for Arts at the Armory on Highland Ave. to celebrate SCC’s 40 th anniversary. The event was a hugely successful milestone for SCC, bringing together folks from many parts of SCC, as well as members and supporters from across SCC’s four decades of work in Somerville . The event was also a financial success in that we raised a little bit more than our goal of $70,000!
Those who attended the Gala enjoyed wonderful food prepared by Rebecca Caras catering, a high energy interactive performance by drummers from Bloco Afro Brazil, and music and dancing courtesy of DJ Patrick Lally. Our Silent Auction was a huge success, bringing in over $5,000 to SCC while offering the buyers a terrific array of products ranging from packages of items from several Somerville Squares to tickets to the Red Sox, Celtics, Bruins, and even a performance of 101 Dalmatians at the Citi Center !
The Gala program included remarks from current Mayor Joe Curtatone, former Mayor Gene Brune, Michael Capuano, son of the Congressman, and John Curtis of Curtis Construction, builders of SCC’s new St. Polycarp’s building, as well as SCC President Janine Lotti and Board members Marty Martinez and Yvette Verdieu. SCC commissioned a video for the Gala, produced by Shawn Clarke and Ethan Goldhammer , as well as photo display boards, produced by Colin Barr . The video and display boards reflect both SCC’s current and historical work – look for both these pieces on the SCC website soon.
We thank our sponsors, members and supporters for helping to make our 40 th Anniversary Gala such a rousing success, and look forward to working with all of you for the next 40 years in Somerville .
